Yoga: Breathing Through It

So I began practicing yoga about a year and a half ago. When I started, I had honestly just stumbled across a few videos on Instagram of people doing acro-yoga and inversions and thought, “That looks pretty rad… I wonder if I could do that…”

What I hadn’t understood at first, and what didn’t click for me until a few months into my practice, was that yoga was not only an art for the body, but for the mind. I needed to start practicing more mindful yoga, and treating the time that I flowed as if I was meditating just with fluid movement. Once I started that process, everything changed. My breathing was no longer hitched, my body relaxed. I felt a significant difference in my practice and so did my spirit.

I began to only focus on my breathing while I moved, deep and steady, in and out. I had to quiet my mind and listen to my body, how it felt I should bend and what was pushing it too far. The great thing about yoga is there is so much room to grow. You only compete against yourself and you move to your own pace.

If there’s one thing I learned from my practice, it’s move with intention and listen to your body.

Keep any eye out as I post some of my flows throughout the week. I hope to start breaking down poses for beginners soon.

I can’t wait to see more. I have always preached mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and am now practicing more of what I preach. I’ve seen such a growth in you…Can’t wait to see it in myself. One day at a time.
